The Madrid derby is at its best. The Spanish Super Cup saw a dramatic match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the semifinal. Once again, Real Madrid showed great fighting spirit and made an unbelievable turnaround against Atletico Madrid. Despite going behind twice, Real Madrid successfully came back and defeated Atletico Madrid by a thrilling 5-3 margin to secure their place in the final.

Last night, Real Madrid faced off against Atletico Madrid at a neutral venue in Saudi Arabia. However, managers from the two sides played their best possible XI in this crucial semifinal. Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti set up the team formation with 4-3-1-2, where Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo led the attack. On the other hand, Atletico Madrid’s manager Diego Simeone played his team in an aggressive 3-5-2 formation, using three CBs with two wing-backs.

However, the match started with Atletico Madrid getting an early goal. Defender Mario Hermoso put Atletico ahead in just six minutes as he scored a goal from a corner kick. But Real Madrid didn’t waste time and found the equalizer in the 20th minute. The Los Blancos’ first goal also came from a corner kick as Antonio Rudiger converted Modric’s corner into a stunning goal.

The first goal was a massive boost for Real Madrid, leading them to score another one within a few minutes. This time, Ferland Mendy scored in the 29th minute to give a lead to the team. Griezmann canceled the lead as he found the leveler in the 37th minute for Atletico Madrid.

The first half was full of drama and both teams had tons of chances. However, none could find the net in the remaining minute of the first half.

The aggression between the two sides continues in the second half. But it took 78 minutes to see Atletico Madrid taking the lead again. Atletico got their third goal when Antonio Rudiger put the ball into his own net! It seemed the Simeone boys could win the match, but the drama was yet to come. Dani Carvajal gave a lifeline to Real Madrid with his bullet shot, which found the back of the net in the 85th minute.

As a result, the match went to extra time, where Real Madrid outplayed Atletico Madrid. Joselu made the scoreline 4-3 with a brilliant finish in the 116th minute, while Brahim Diaz hammered the final nail into Real Madrid’s coffin in the additional time. In the end, Los Blancos won the match by a dramatic 5-3 margin and sealed their place in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.

Ancelotti on Winning the Match

Carlo Ancelotti shared his thoughts on winning the dramatic match against Atletico Madrid. “The team never gives up. It’s in  Real Madrid ‘s DNA and it’s a good lesson for the youngsters. We could have lost today, but we never gave up. The team’s very happy and we have to stay calm because it was a match with plenty of emotion. We have 90 minutes left to win the trophy and that’s the objective,” Ancelotti said in the post-match briefing.
