Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti set up the team formation with 4-2-2-2, where Joselu and Rodrygo led the attack for the Los Blancos. However, the boss made some changes to the squad in this match. He benched Antonio Rudiger, Tony Kroos, and Brahim Diaz. On the other hand, Nenad Bjelica, the manager of Union Berlin, played his team in a defensive 5-3-2 formation. From the start, both teams tried hard to take an early lead. The two sides got plenty of chances but failed to break the deadlock. However, Real Madrid eventually took control of the match, as their midfield was very dominant. The chance for Real Madrid came just before the half time when Berlin's defender Diogo Leite made a handball inside the box. As a result, the match referee awarded a penalty kick to Real Madrid. Unfortunately, Luka Modric failed to convert it from the 12 yards. Meanwhile, Union Berlin wasted no time and stunned the visitors with a brilliant counter-attack. In injury time, striker Kevin Volland put Union Berlin ahead by scoring a fantastic goal, resulting in Berlin going to the break with a one-goal lead. Coming back from the break, the Los Blancos had gone crazy and created tons of chances. Therefore, they didn't have to wait much to find the equalizer. Joselu, in the 61st minute, leveled the scoreline as he found the net with a brilliant header. The striker was very sharp inside the box. He, once again, found the net with a header in the 70th minute. It seemed the Union Berlin were losing the game, but the drama wasn't over. Berlin's midfielder Alex Kral gave a lifeline in the dying moment as he scored a fantastic goal in the 85th minute. But Real Madrid were very determined to win the game and fought until the last. They finally got the winner when defender Dani Ceballos scored an amazing goal in the 89th minute with the help of Jude Bellingham. Union Berlin, however, couldn't find the net in the additional time. As a result, Real Madrid sealed their sixth consecutive victory in the UEFA Champions League this season.Related reading
