It’s been a week since Real Madrid eliminated Atletico Madrid from the Spanish Super Cup. However, these two Spanish giants are set to face off once again as Atletico Madrid will host Real Madrid tonight in the round of 16 in the Copa Del Rey.

Atletico Madrid played brilliantly in their most recent meeting with Real Madrid in the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup. But the Los Blancos showed their fighting spirit, and despite going behind twice, they made a superb comeback and won the match by a 5-3 margin against Atletico Madrid, resulting in Real Madrid securing the final.

However, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo were not in their peak form when Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid. But this duo did an excellent job in the final of the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona. Relying on them, Real Madrid humiliated their arch-rival, FC Barcelona, and won their first trophy of the year. Real Madrid’s Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior scored a heroic hattrick within the first 45 minutes of this match, leading Real Madrid to win over Barcelona by a massive 4-1 margin.

Now another opportunity comes in for Real Madrid, and they can go one step closer to winning the Copa Del Rey if they can beat Atletico Madrid. But it is also a great chance for the Diego Simeone boys to avenge their defeat in the Spanish Super Cup.

Team News

Dutch striker Memphis Depay was absent during the match against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. However, he has returned to training and could get a few minutes in the second half when Atletico Madrid take on Real Madrid at Metropolitano Stadium. Atletico Madrid will miss the service of their left-back Reinildo, as he is on international duty in the AFCON Cup. In addition, the home side will be without Vitolo and Thomas Lemar due to their respective injury. However, Saul Niguez is eligible to play and should be available for tonight’s match.

After winning back-to-back high-voltage games against Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is unlikely to make changes in the squad. However, midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni didn’t take part in the training session, but the manager confirms it is not a serious issue. Anyway, the Los Blancos will miss the service of Lucas Vazquez, Eder Militao, David Alava, and Thibaut Courtois due to their respective injury.

Possible Lineup for Atletico Madrid:

Oblak; Witsel, Gimenez, Hermoso; Molina, De Paul, Koke, Saul, Lino; Morata, Griezmann

Possible Lineup for Real Madrid:

Lunin; Carvajal, Rudiger, Fernandez, Mendy; Valverde, Camavinga, Kroos; Bellingham; Joselu, Vinicius Jr

Prediction: Atletico Madrid 2-2 Real Madrid

Although Atletico Madrid are not in their best form this season, their home records are brilliant. They are currently unbeaten in their last 25 home games across all competitions. However, they did a good job in their last meeting with Real Madrid, eventhough they lost the game.

On the other hand, Real Madrid are in a brilliant run. They won all their last five games in all competitions. Therefore, we expect a very high-scoring game tonight at Civitas Metropolitano Stadium.
