1st Innings of West Indies

West Indies welcomed India for a two-match Test Series. The series started on July 12 with the first game, where West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first.

Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chandarpaul stepped into the crease to start the innings for the Caribbean. But the home team struggled since the start of the first ball. They picked up only 31 runs in the opening partnership.

Ravindra Jadeja drew the first blood as he bowled out Tagenarine Chandarpaul in the 13th over. The disaster continued for the host as their batters couldn’t fight back. Moreover, spinners got an extra advantage from the pitch. On Day 1, bowlers got an extra spin from the wicket. Therefore, it became difficult for the Caribbean batters to stay long.

As the spinners got an advantage from the pitch, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin destroyed the batting line-up of the West Indies. Ashwin picked up five wickets alone, while Jadeja hit three wickets.

Due to their extraordinary spells, West Indies became all out in just 150 runs. However, Alick Athanaze scored the highest 47 runs for the home side.

1st Innings of India

Skipper Rohit Sharma came into the crease with youngster Yashavsi Jaiswal to start India’s first innings. The two openers were very dominant against West Indies.

Captain Rohit showed his skills, while Yashavsi Jaiswal proved his potential in this match. Rohit Sharma smashed a brilliant century in this innings. After a while, Yashavsi Jaiswal, who made his debut in this match, scored a fantastic century against West Indies. Relying on their bats, India got a massive partnership of 229 runs in the opening wicket.

After that, Rohit Sharma lost his wicket in the 75.4 over, scoring 103 runs. The captain hit 10 fours and two sixes. However, Jaiswal continued picking runs. He remains not out in 143 runs. The youngster already hit 14 boundaries in the first innings. He will continue today with Virat Kohli. However, Virat is also unbeaten in 36 runs. As it stands, India are leading by 162 runs and will extend their lead today at Winsdon Park.
